To experience the natural beauty of undeveloped land in Southern California, Long Beach residents don't have to go much further than their own backyard. In the late 1990's the Greenbelt Committee was formed to revitalize the neglected old Pacific Rideaway. Instead of using the open space to develop apartment buildings, this community organization decided to plant the plants that used to be here before most of us were. This revolutionary idea continues to offer a tranquil place for the surrounding neighborhood to appreciate the greens and golds and other annual colors of California.

What started as a good idea to reintroduce native plants into the neighborhood has turned into a habitat that supports multiple bird, insect, and plant species. On any given time and day, Scrub Jays, Green Lynx Spiders, Fig Beetles, Harlequin Beetles, Ground Squirrels and our lone white rabbit can be found enjoying the place.

The Greenbelt is completely open to the public and dogs of the public also (please just help us out and clean up afterwards). The Los Cerritos Wetland Stewards host a Nature Walk and Work Party every second Saturday of every month and would love to have nature enthusiasts of all ages and experience come and talk with us. Directions and Parking at the Greenbelt:
Turn North on Termino St. from 7th St.
Turn East onto 8th St.
Parking is usually easiest at the corner of 8th and Termino but wherever you park is not a far walk from the entrance. It is a residential area so Thursday/Friday parking laws are enforced but there are plenty of signs to help you out.
